Rendering of the 430 West Broadwa design to go up before the Landmarks Preservation Commission tomorrow (MA Architects)
A new office building designed by Morris Adjmi Architects is planned for 430 West Broadway in the SoHo Cast-Iron Historic District. The project will be presented to the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) in a hearing tomorrow afternoon according to the agency's online calendar.
The site, located between Prince and Spring streets is currently occupied by a 3-story structure erected in 1987, which was significantly altered in 1997. Permits filed by Albert Laboz of 430 W Broadway LLC indicate the new building will rise to 98 feet with 7 floors.

Renderings and drawings of the forthcoming project can be found in the LPC presentation here. The exterior will be clad in muted grey brick with oversized windows accented by perforated metal panels. Many pre-war buildings in the district have windows with bordering architectural details, and the design for the new building seems to have considered this by including the perforated panels, which is likened to the bullet-glass sidewalks found throughout Soho. There will be a setback on the seventh floor providing a terrace.
Morris Adjmi Architects has designed a number of downtown residential buildings including condos 11 North Moore Street (4 Apts for Sale) and 290 West Street (1 Apt for Sale). The firm is also handling the design for a new condo not at 540 Hudson Street in the West Village.
Other designs handled by Morris Adjmi in the beloved district include the acclaimed Scholastic Building on Broadway, the planned office building 419-421 Broadway, and the office building underway at 363 Lafayette Street in nearby NoHo.
