After the success of Tribeca's 70 Vestry Street, Related Companies is wasting no time on their next Hudson River-fronting development at 555 West 22nd Street. Last summer, a U-Haul compound was cleared away and caissons made their way into the ground; in the year since, the broad concrete frame rose about six stories high, en route to its 25-story, roughly 300-foot pinnacle. The imposing edifice, designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects will add lend classical charm to Chelsea's Hudson River waterfront.
In contrast to original leaked images, the latest rendering shows a facade of light-colored stone and traditional elements such as bay windows, rusticated lower floors, and setbacked massing. Previously-posted EB-5 documents said the project would have 141 condo units and amenities would include on-site parking, a spa, fitness center, and resident lounges. SLCE is listed as the architects of record for the development.

The building, situated half a block from the High Line, touches both 23rd and 22nd streets, and will overlook Eleventh Avenue, Chelsea Waterside Park, Chelsea Piers, and Hudson River Park.

 

Unit prices are yet to be released, yet we may gauge the approximate range from nearby luxury developments. One block north is the Annabelle Selldorf-designed 200 Eleventh Avenue where a three-bedroom is available for $7.995M. One block south is the Foster + Partners-designed 551W21 which has five homes available priced from $1.95M. According to EB5 documents from 2017, project delivery is pegged for late 2020.

As seen in our Robert A.M. Stern Architects roundup from last year, Related and Stern have partnered on a number of highly successful residential developments that include the above-mentioned 70 Vestry, brick-trimmed Superior Ink further down the Hudson River waterfront, The Chatham and The Brompton on the Upper East Side, and The Harrison in the Upper West Side's Broadway Corridor. Stern is also rumored to be involved in the design of one (or more) of the buildings planned for the western phase of Hudson Yards, seven blocks to the north.
