The US Open begins on August 28, but anticipation is already running high. Recently announced women’s wild cards will include Venus Williams, for whom it will be a record-extending 24th US Open, and Caroline Wozniacki, who has recently returned to action after retiring in 2020. On the men’s side, injuries will keep Juan Martin del Potro and Denis Shapovalov out of this year’s tournament. There is, however, plenty of talent to keep an eye out for: Vanity Fair ran a print and online profile of rising stars like Frances Tiafoe, Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Sebastian Korda.
In New York, excitement goes beyond the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing and sports bars all over the city that will be airing the matches. A popup tennis court is coming to Times Square on August 24. Rockefeller Center will have a court of its own from August 24 to September 1. On September 6-9, the last days of the tournament, The Seaport will host Match Point Rooftop Tennis at Pier 17. Subscribers to Racquet magazine's newsletter may reserve time at the Rockefeller Center court, but the others are first-come, first-serve. They come to the city at a time when tennis players are going toe to toe with pickleball players for limited court space in public parks.

The battle for court space is especially contentious because they will only have access to it for a limited time. Tennis season only lasts from the first Saturday in April to the Sunday before Thanksgiving (November 19 this year, owing to Thanksgiving falling on one of the earliest possible days). Tennis clubs and gyms with courts are certainly an option, but the fees can quickly add up to more than the $100 a full-season tennis permit costs. But for residents of the following buildings, a tennis court is just an elevator ride away.

Olympia was named 6sqft's 2022 Building of the Year for its unique architecture that allows for unique floor plans and spectacular skyline and Brooklyn Bridge views. Three floors of indoor and outdoor amenities surely can't hurt, either; these include the 10th-story Bridge level with New York's highest full-size tennis court overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. Closings commenced earlier this spring.
