February 2025 ended on a sad note with a slew of celebrity deaths, many of whom were connected to New York City. Days after the death of Grammy Award-winning singer Roberta Flack, who famously owned an apartment at The Dakota, fans gathered outside 1 Columbus Place to pay their respects to Michelle Trachtenberg. And as the month drew to a close, music fans were devastated to lose Staten Island native/New York Dolls frontman David Johansen.

In brighter news, February 2025 was also a bustling time for New York real estate, especially among public figures. Ken Griffin's purchase of Julia Koch's penthouse in "tower of power" 740 Park Avenue had many talking, and the month was punctuated by listings, sales, and contracts of listings in various neighborhoods linked to public figures in all industries. If you've ever wanted to live like a star, now might be the time.

It’s not unheard of for apartment sellers to sweeten the deals with such incentives as maintenance credits or furniture, but the seller of this East Village apartment takes that to a new level: They will include handwritten lyrics, fan mail, and other papers of past resident Joey Ramone with the sale. The seller found the papers wedged behind the kitchen cabinets during a renovation, and Curbed speculates that the punk icon may have been renting there when the building went co-op.

From the Listing: This renovated studio in the heart of the East Village was once home to a punk legend! The entire apartment was renovated featuring a brand-new kitchen with a dishwasher and soft close cabinets. The bathroom was completely renovated with Swiss Madison, Wade Logan, Lithonia and Vigo fixtures and new white oak floors were installed throughout the apartment with soundproofing underneath. To top it all off, the apartment faces south so you get great light all day. See floor plan and full details here.

The Saint Mark has 8 public availabilities from $550,000.
