Almost exactly eight months since it last had Manhattan's top sale, celebrity favorite 443 Greenwich Street is back on top with Penthouse B, which closed for $36,000,000. This represents a small reduction from the original asking price of $40,000,000 when it was listed in August 2022, but the seller nevertheless makes a small profit, having paid $34,000,000 for it in October 2021. The seller was identified only through an LLC, as was the buyer.
Further uptown at the Robert A.M. Stern-designed 200 East 83rd Street, two penthouses brought in a total of $60,060,250. Duplex Penthouse C closed for $32,500,000 in the second-highest sale of the week, or the asking price when it entered contract in March 2022. It was closely trailed by Penthouse A, a full-floor unit that closed slightly above ask at $27,560,250. Both penthouses feature four exposures, gas fireplaces, custom kitchens from Brookmans by Smallbone, and private outdoor space.

Also of note last week, The Wall Street Journal announced that 129 East 73rd Street, the Lenox Hill townhouse that made a memorable cameo in the film adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada sold for around $26,500,000, or $1 million less than when it entered contract in July 2023, around two months after it came on the market. The unidentified buyer had been looking for a townhouse in the neighborhood for about a year and a half before buying this one; buyer's broker Corey Shuster of Douglas Elliman told the Journal that its appearance in the movie was "a cool tidbit [but] not much of a deciding factor." Seller Craig Effron, a founding partner of hedge fund Scoggin Capital Management, bought the house with his wife Caryn Effron for $8,800,000 in 2003.
