"Alexa, Find Me an Apartment": Developers Collaborate with Amazon for Smart LIC Development

At Tishman Speyer’s Idea Olympics, teams of junior associates competed to develop concepts for original, revolutionary residential amenities. One year later, the winning idea is being implemented in Long Island City development Jackson Park: As a result of a collaboration with Amazon, the first residents of this three-building, 1,871-unit complex will get a complimentary Amazon Echo Show and a smart outlet that can link to the device. Moreover, 120 premium penthouses will be wired with a full suite of smart home devices certified to work with Amazon’s cloud-based voice service Alexa, including lights, thermostat, and electricity. Equipped with a 7-inch touch screen and 5-megapixel camera, the device can follow voice-activated commands to help with tasks, cooking, entertainment, shopping, communication, and so much more.

Some residents will undoubtedly use their smart devices to make video calls so friends and family can see their beautiful new apartments. A key card opens the door to a unit with interiors by Clodagh Design, LED lighting, floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings, solar shades, resident-controlled heating and air conditioning, in-unit washer/dryer, and striking views of the New York skyline, vistas of Long Island City, or the complex’s 1.6-acre private park. Kitchens feature Caesarstone countertops, under cabinet lighting, custom cabinetry, and Energy Star appliances. Bathrooms have tri-view mirror with integrated storage, custom vanities, and Moen and Toto fixtures.

However, the staggering number of amenities could mean that residents don’t spend much time in their apartments. The aforementioned park has a Great Lawn, dog run, children’s play area, grilling stations, sun terrace, and outdoor table tennis. The Club at Jackson Park has five stories dedicated to entertaining, athletics, indoor and outdoor pools, socializing, and relaxation. Each residential tower is topped with a Sky Deck offering jaw-dropping city views from the party room, children’s playroom, terrace, and outdoor lounge.
All listings are available January 2018. Studios start at $2,197/month; one-bedrooms start at $2,603/month; two-bedrooms start at $4,394/month; three-bedrooms start at $4,745/month; and a four-bedrooms is listed for $7,385/month. All prices are net effective to reflect one month free on a 13-month lease.
