In recent years, Hoboken and Jersey City have risen as highly desirable alternatives to the five boroughs of New York. Now the area between the two cities has been dubbed Soho West (“south of Hoboken, west of New York City") and is emerging in its own right. As a testament to that, leasing has launched at Manhattan Building Company’s Soho Lofts at 273 16th Street in Jersey City.
The rental community comprises two buildings – one 14-story, one 21-story – connected by a five-story podium with a soaring lobby, attended parking garage, and impressive suite of amenities. Initial occupancy will take place this month. The building's official website shows studios from $2,550/month, one-bedrooms from $2,845/month, two-bedrooms from $4,425/month.

The 377 studios through four-bedrooms have interiors by Kim Depole, and red oak doors open to loft-like units with 10-foot ceilings, exposed spiral duct work, white oak flooring, and expansive windows with sound-insulating glass. Kitchens have Shaker-style cabinets with glass accent doors, granite countertops, and stainless steel Frigidaire Gallery appliances. Lavish baths feature polished porcelain Carrera tile, maple vanities, and glass-enclosed showers with rain showerheads. Additional features include solar shades in all bedrooms and in-unit washer/dryers.
This New Jersey rental offers amenities to put its Manhattan and Brooklyn counterparts to shame. The soaring lobby is attended, and the building also offers 24-hour concierge service and valet parking. Additional amenities in the podium include, but are by no means limited to, a demonstration kitchen and party room, arcade lounge with shuffleboard and billiards, media room with surround sound, fitness center, indoor/outdoor yoga studio, 10-person sauna, and dog grooming rooms. The lifestyle amenities are not limited to inside the building; it offers an outdoor pool with cabanas, outdoor shower, fireside seating, outdoor television, Zen garden, gas grills with prep station, dog run, and children’s play area.
Soho Lofts also offers complimentary shuttle service to nearby PATH stations and New York Waterway ferry terminals for a convenient commute; drivers benefit from its easy access to the New Jersey Turnpike. Meanwhile, a community of restaurants, retail, and entertainment has sprung up in the surrounding area.
