Downtown Brooklyn--a.k.a. DoBro—bested downtown Manhattan’s FiDi (Financial District) as New York City Neighborhood of the Year in Curbed’s 2011 “Curbed Cup.” The (faux) prize is awarded to the best (real) up-and-comer among the city's many evolving neighborhoods.
Downtown Brooklyn has been overshadowed in its borough by haughty Brooklyn Heights, family-magnet Park Slope, historic Fort Greene, hip Williamsburg, and the trendy trifecta of BoCoCa, as well as Manhattan’s towering metropolis. In recent years the area has come into its own as a top residential neighborhood, welcoming a tide of new residents to architecturally stunning, amenity-packed luxury Brooklyn condos like the landmarked One Hanson Place (shown), Toren and Oro.
