To look at the top sales of the past week, one would never know the West Village and Soho were ever derelict neighborhoods where only the most intrepid artists dared make homes out of empty loft buildings. Leading the charge was Penthouse A at celebrity favorite 150 Charles Street, which closed for $52,000,000. The Wall Street Journal announced the sale, identified the buyer as former Credit Suisse executive Robert Shafir, and noted that he paid $29.38 million for the five-bedroom home in 2016.

At a closing price of $50,000,000, the penthouse at Soho loft building 151 Wooster Street nipped at its heels. When The Wall Street Journal announced the sale, it noted that the penthouse, a combination of several units in the building, was never publicly listed. While it came in just short of the top sale of the past week, it nevertheless set a new price record for Soho, beating out the former record holder at The Tulip Building by only $1 million.

The top uptown sale and third-highest was Penthouse A at The Bellemont, which closed for $25,161,488, one of the few listings in the boutique building to close below asking price, albeit only slightly. Located two stories below the record-setting quadruplex penthouse, it measures five bedrooms, five and a half baths, 5,209 square feet, and a total of 924 square feet of private outdoor space spread across three private terraces.

It was trailed closely by the penthouse at 180 East 88th Street. A few short weeks after it entered contract at a $29 million asking price, the sale was recorded for $24,700,000. The triplex home is distinguished by its lofty elevation, massive arches, dramatic staircase, and abundant private terraces, but it was its appearance on hit TV drama Succession that put it on the radar of luxury buyers, not to mention fans all over the world. The buyer conducted the transaction through an LLC.

Also on the Upper East Side, The Real Deal announced that philanthropist Julia Koch sold her townhouse at 110 East 76th Street for $41,000,000 roughly three years after she and late husband David Koch bought it from developer Joseph Chetrit for $40.25 million. The eight-bedroom, 15,000-square-foot home was renovated by architect Peter Marino, and features include a separate service entry, first-floor garden, roof terrace, media room, spa, sports court, and a grand staircase and elevator connecting all six levels. The sale came about a year after Ms. Koch's record-breaking purchase of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's penthouse at 4 East 66th Street.
