The past year has been an exciting one for New York architecture, but many of the masterpieces announced won't be resident-ready for several more months, if not years. Until then, enterprising developers have teamed up with top design talent to present model units that show off the best of the interiors and offer a preview of the apartments to come. We present our favorites to be revealed over the past year.

The model unit at 277 Fifth Avenue is the perfect embodiment of the high ceilings and incredible sunlight that typify Fifth Avenue's tallest all-residential tower. A tube-in-tube structural design moves columns to the perimeter to allow for airy, column-free, flexible layouts. Ceilings heights average more than 10 feet, the floor-to-ceiling windows are framed in black mullions, and the walls are ideal for displaying an art collection. The open kitchen features a Calacatta Saccheli marble island, a customized suite of Miele appliances, and oak cabinetry. Master baths are clad in full-height marble walls and heated marble flooring.

Perched on the 77th floor of Lower Manhattan's tallest condo tower, this half-floor penthouse boasts sweeping Manhattan, Brooklyn, and river views and two private terraces on both sides. Designer Meryl Santopietro chose neutral tones to complement pops of color throughout the home, which is filled with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows. A gracious foyer leads to an expansive living room with a St. Tropez limestone fireplace. The kitchen features custom oak cabinetry, Gaggenau appliances, and polished marble countertops. Down the hall, the master suite comes with dual master baths.

As residents started to move into the first condominium in Essex Crossing, a model unit styled by ASH NYC was unveiled. The apartment's warm-toned millwork, grey-veined marble, and white oak floors provided excellent bones for the artistic, colorful design. Contemporary art sourced from the nearby Denny Gallery was used as a bridge between the old Lower East Side and the new age the mega-development is ushering in. While both bedrooms have luxe wall coverings, the most eye-catching part can be seen outside the window: beautiful views of Lower Manhattan.

Neiman Marcus's New York flagship is opening in Hudson Yards next spring, but a small piece of it can already be seen: Ken Downing, Senior Vice President and Fashion Director, has styled a model unit in Fifteen Hudson Yards, the first residential tower to be completed in the superdevelopment. The apartment provided an excellent layout and sweeping skyline views through floor-to-ceiling windows, and Mr. Downing provided a collection of colorful art and furniture to create a "jewel box in the sky." Select items used in the apartment are available for purchase from a special Neiman Marcus website.

When the turn-of-the-century school at 555 West End Avenue was transformed into high-end condos, the interiors beautifully melded historic details with soaring ceilings and transom windows. This served as a pleasing frame for a model unit designed by Charlie Ferrer. The apartment's furniture and lighting collection masterfully combines vintage pieces, modern furnishings, and contemporary art for a lively, eclectic look. Rich fabrics and high-end finishes bring warmth and texture to the home as well.

While the d'Orsay towers over its nearest neighbors, its Roman-style brick facade and oversized windows fit quite well in the local context. In the model unit, minimalist stylings combine beautifully with industrial accents. Natural material finishes include oak cabinets, marble baths, and custom metal finishes. Ceilings soar, and the light fixtures were custom-designed by Jacques Garcia for his first New York project. The kitchen is outfitted with integrated, high-end appliances.

Before The NOMA opened this fall, a model unit offered a tantalizing preview of the clean lines, natural materials, and walls of windows that awaited buyers. The custom kitchen is equipped with under-cabinet lighting, quartz countertops, white marble backsplash, Kohler sink and fixtures, and Miele appliances. The master suite boasts Empire State Building views, a walk-in closet, and bath with radiant heated floors.

The luxury residences of 70 Charlton have attracted an impressive roster of design talent, and Patricia Fisher joined their ranks with a model unit unveiled in spring. She chose to accessorize the three-bedroom, 1,631-square-foot home with chic pieces, eye-catching wallpapers, and neutral tones enhanced by pops of color. The apartment's custom hardwood flooring, custom hardwood baseboards, doors, and trim, and choice of kitchen palette provided an excellent foundation.

FSC-certified wood, water-conserving fixtures, a lushly planted roof deck, and a solar-powered water heating system were all instrumental in 200 East 21st Street's LEED Gold certification. However, its model unit shows that it is possible to be stylish and sustainable at the same time. The oak entry door opens to a generous floor plan and wraparound bronze windows. The interiors, which also feature a chef's kitchen and marble master bath, were enhanced by a curated selection from the developer's personal art collection.
