The strip-mallification of Harlem’s 125th Street continues with another generic retail box on the brink of opening. This one comes in at 112 West 125th Street where Rockfeld Group is wrapping up construction on a two-floor, 36,000 retail building. According to the Post, its three levels (including the celar) will be occupied by Victoria Secret and Bath & Body Works. The nondescript building was designed by SRA Architecture + Engineering and rises directly next door to the equally thin-skinned complex occupied by Whole Foods, Burlington and Olive Garden.
Rockfeld’s retail building may just be the base for a residential building above. Posted on their website is an illustration showing the lot has an additional buildable area that can take the form of an 11-story building with apartments above the retail. No word on if or when that is happening, but in the meantime, “Uptown shoppers can rejoice” now that “the angels are coming to Harlem,” as the Post puts it.
