Like almost every weekend in New York City, Mother’s Day weekend will be filled with energy, art, and reasons to celebrate — brunch under the sun at the Upper East Side’s newest culinary darling to international art fairs, cultural parades, and late-night dance floors. Whether you're toasting mom with mimosas, diving into the avant-garde at Frieze, or exploring vibrant expressions of fashion, flora, and identity across the city, this piece rounds up some of the best events to help you savor the season in style while checking out local Open Houses.

Saturday’s forecast? Mostly sunny with a minor chance of morning showers (just enough to keep your outfit interesting). Expect highs in the low 70s, with a breezy northwest wind up to 25 mph — perfect weather for a trench coat and real estate browsing. On Sunday, Mother's Day, the skies clear for a sunny, mild day in the low 70s with gentler winds—ideal for celebrating mom. Happy Mother's Day!

Monday’s 2025 Met Gala celebrated the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with a dress code titled “Tailored for You,” honoring the legacy of Black dandyism and bespoke fashion. Despite the drama (co-chair LeBron pulling out last minute and endless showstopping looks), the exhibit is on display at the Met from May 10–October 26, 2025… and you can wear what you want to view it.

In 2007, the Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York called on leading Japanese companies to sponsor a special event celebrating the local communities, shared heritages, and cultures of Japanese Americans in New York. The result was Japan Day @ Central Park, an annual May tradition until 2019, featuring authentic Japanese cuisine, interactive activities like shodō and origami, and performances by both local and internationally acclaimed artists such as Sadao Watanabe, AKB48, and Puffy AmiYumi. Disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan Day returned in 2022 in a new form as the Japan Parade and Japan Street Fair, with the parade traveling down Central Park West from 81st to 67th Street and the fair held on 69th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

Date: Saturday, May 10th, 2025
Time: 1:00PM-3:30PM (Parade) & 11:00AM – 5:00PM (Street Fair)
Parade Route: Central Park West, from 81st to 67th street (Southbound)
Street Fair Location: 72nd Street (Between Central Park W & Columbus Ave)
