Robert A.M. Stern has been quite busy as of late, gracing the city with his signature traditional style which unabashedly references the golden era of New York City architecture. In a blossoming corner of West SoHo, a 12-story rental building tentatively addressed 261 Hudson Street is nearing completion. Having most of its masonry cladding complete, the building's 201 apartment are being readied for renters later this year. The skyline-shifters at Related Companies are the project's developers and just launched the affordable housing lottery for the building's 41 subsidized units, which are priced as low as $788 per month.

Its sumptuous stone and brick cladding makes the exterior a standout among its rather monotone neighbors. As it stands, the structure boasts a rhythmic facade comprised of orange and gray colored bricks and a grid of cast stone accents and piers. Its 200-feet of Hudson Street frontage is mitigated by an eighth-floor setback and the alternation of weighty materials that frame its deeply-inset, multi-paned windows.

Mexican-born designer Ismael Leyva is the architect of record, and amenities will include a roof deck, fitness center, bike storage, and recreation room. The building is close to all the shopping of SoHo, numerous nightlife venues, and the 1, A, C, and E subway lines. Leasing of the market-rate apartments is scheduled to begin later this year.
