Brooklyn is the most populous borough of New York City and just like Manhattan, it's a diverse and exciting place to call home with a variety of housing types. In Brooklyn Heights you'll find quaint tree-lined streets with historic brownstones; Prospect Heights has large-scale developments like 550 Vanderbilt Avenue and Pacific Park; and in other areas are nondescript buildings where the majority of us commoners live.

Completed in 1949 and into the 1950s, the 59 brick buildings of Flatbush Gardens (formerly known as Vanderveer Estates) rise to six floors on the tree-lined blocks of East Flatbush - an area serviced by the 2 and 5 train at the Newkirk Ave / Nostrand Ave stop. Inside, its homes come in studio to two-bedroom layouts with up to 800 square feet of interior space; many are newly renovated offering hardwood floors, open floor plans and new appliances. Current listings show studios from $1,558/month, one-bedrooms from $1,700/month and two-bedrooms from $1,950/month.
Flatbush Gardens, a 59-building rental complex professionally managed by Clipper Equity

The complex has been around for more than 50 years and Clipper Equity has been professionally managing the property since 2005 when they acquired it for $138.2 million, according to The Real Deal. Since the purchase, a number of improvements have been made that might even make former residents proud - like Barbra Streisand who lived at the complex with her family as a teenager.

Prior to being purchased by Clipper Equity, some of the buildings had fallen into disrepair. However, renovations have been made and new features introduced like a 24-hour Quality of Life team and onsite maintenance and porter staff. The grounds also features a daycare center, children's playgrounds, handball courts, laundry rooms and parking garages. A bonus at the property: utilities are included with the exception of AC charges.
