A newly constructed rental has launched uptown at 517 West 134th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue in Hamilton Heights. Citi Habitats is handling leasing for the 8-story building, which has 23 one- and two-bedroom apartments in five different floor plans.

Listings on CityRealty show the one-bedrooms priced from $2,300/month and two-bedrooms from $3,690/month (all are no fee). Elsewhere in the neighborhood, several studio to three-bedroom apartments are listed with a median price of $2,600 per month. Check them all out here.

Renting in the area typically means living in one of the many prewar walkups, but this new rental isn't trying to blend in. Homes have modern features and a contemporary design, and a select number of units offer private balconies.

They have practical layouts with large windows and built-in air conditioning units. Floorplans for some of the units show limited closet space - be prepared if you need a lot of storage room. Unique tiled flooring is throughout and each unit has its own washer and dryer.

Kitchens are modern, designed with white mica countertops and stainless steel appliances. The tiled bathrooms have deep soaking tubs and handsome fixtures.

The building's lobby has a nice design and the shared roof deck will be a great place to relax in warmer months. Five of the building's units have been reserved for an affordable housing lottery, which launched earlier this month. 6sqft has the details.

Subway transit is only a short walk away; the 1 train is at West 137th Street and Broadway, and the B/C are at West 135th and St. Nicholas Avenue. The neighborhood has a great community vibe with a lot of delicious restaurants. City College is just around the block and Columbia's new Manhattanville campus is also nearby. The neighborhood is named after Alexander Hamilton and a former residence of his still exists, though it has changed locations several times. Now the Hamilton Grange National Memorial, the current site of the home is a few blocks away on West 141st Street.
