Inspired by the boulevards of Berlin and Paris, the lovely Ocean Parkway was a proposal of landscape legends Olmstead & Vaux, and mostly consists of two-story homes with wide sidewalks and tree-lined medians. But a newly constructed building at 581 Ocean Parkway is breaking tradition, rising to eight floors with a modern, faux-industrial façade that contrasts with the traditionally-designed homes it's squeezed between.

Its 60 apartments inside are modern, of course, and have flexible layouts that offer one or two-bedrooms. No-fee listings recently debuted with up to 6 weeks of free rent on a new lease, and apartments are priced between $2,269 and $2,538 per month. They have hardwood floors, large windows and open kitchens, and the flexible layouts allow for various uses of the extra space, like creating a home office or a guest room.

Kitchen cabinetry and appliances have have a black & white scheme, and feature dishwashers and marble backsplashes. Bathrooms are luxurious, with glass enclosed showers and wood-accented medicine cabinets. The homes have climate control, and select units have private balconies, patios or backyards.

Building amenities include a large roof deck with landscaping, seating areas, and lovely views of the low-rise neighborhood. There is an on-site laundry room with plenty of washers and dryers, the fitness center has cardio and weight training equipment, and a lounge offers a pool table, a large screen tv and a kitchenette. There is a virtual-doorman system and the building's lobby has artwork, plantings, and areas for residents and visitors to lounge. Pets are permitted.

Kensington is midway into the borough, between the Borough Park and Flatbush/Ditmas Park neighborhoods, and is easily accessible. The F train at Ditmas Ave is about two blocks away, and the B/Q trains are also within walking distance but a bit farther. Permits for the new structure were approved in 2015, and the applicant of record is listed as Charles Mallea of M Architecture.
