A new micro unit rental building is expected to debut at 190 Academy Street in Jersey City this summer with furnished apartments from $1,200/month.
The development is from KSNY and Strategic Properties and designed by GRO Architects. It’s called Nest Micro Apartments and the 122-unit community not far from Journal Square aims to offer functional living spaces in apartments smaller than most. While the property consists of 38,000 square feet, each unit is approximately 220 square feet and residents have access to a number of amenities and common areas.

According to the architect, these micro units are “an alternative for young professionals seeking privacy, modern amenities and economy” and are “designed to promote a sustainable urban living agenda.” The units have a smart layout that includes an area for living, dining and sleeping, with a two-person window seat, a kitchen, and a spacious bathroom with enclosed shower and toilet room. The units come equipped with transformable furniture including a coffee table that expands to a dining table, a desk, and a couch with a fold-down murphy-style bed.

The communal spaces spread throughout the property include a lounge, cafe, laundry room, gym and roof deck with views of Manhattan. The development can be a great residence for young professionals in Jersey City and also for those who work in Manhattan; the location is walkable to the Journal Square PATH station which arrives to World Trade Center in 11 minutes and to 33rd Street in Midtown in 22 minutes. The property offers bike parking, too.
