Overview of 965 Fifth Avenue

Ideally positioned at Fifth Avenue and East 78th Street, 965 Fifth Avenue is a distinguished prewar cooperative offering white-glove service, classic architecture, and breathtaking Central Park views. Designed by Irving Margon and completed in 1941, this 19-story limestone and brick building replaced the historic Jacob Schiff mansion and has long been one of the Upper East Side’s most sought-after addresses.

Residents enjoy impeccable service, including full-time doormen, elevator operators, porters, and a live-in superintendent. Amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated storage, a bicycle room, and central laundry. The building’s charming setbacks, attractive sidewalk landscaping, and discreet air-conditioning units enhance its refined aesthetic, while select residences boast wood-burning fireplaces.

Steps from Central Park, 965 Fifth Avenue is also moments away from The Met, the Guggenheim, Madison Avenue’s best boutiques, and celebrated dining spots like Sant Ambroeus, Serafina, and Bemelmans Bar. With its prime location, classic design, and modern comforts, this cooperative embodies the enduring appeal of Fifth Avenue living.

Carter’s Review

"This attractive, 19-story apartment building at 965 Fifth Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets was erected in 1941 and has 53 co-operative apartments and great sidewalk landscaping.

It was designed by Irving Margon for Kensington Estates Inc., headed by Aaron Simon and replaced the 1901 Jacob Schiff mansion that had been designed by Freeman & Train.  It was transferred in 1939 to the Blanchen Realty Corporation headed by Henry Ittleson, the founder and board chairman of the C.I.T. Financial Corporation who died in the building in 1948 at the age of 77."

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
