Overview of 111 West 57th Street

111 West 57th Street, rising 1,428 feet above Manhattan, stands as the second-tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere. The 84-story tower, developed by JDS Development Group under Michael Stern, is distinguished by its remarkable slenderness ratio of 23:1, making it one of the most striking additions to the city's skyline.

Located on Billionaire's Row, the tower joins other prestigious developments including Central Park Tower, 220 Central Park South, and 432 Park Avenue. The tower's distinctive silhouette is characterized by a series of elegant setbacks as it rises, culminating in a crown that features thin spires in a tiara-like arrangement. The design balances contemporary engineering achievements with classical architectural elements, creating a landmark that reflects both New York's architectural heritage and its future.

The project uniquely incorporates the historic Steinway Building, former home to the legendary piano maker Steinway & Sons, seamlessly integrating the landmark's Neoclassical architecture with a modern supertall tower. SHoP Architects and Studio Sofield collaborated on the design, creating a structure that features a rippling terra-cotta and bronze façade on its east and west elevations, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing north and south.

The tower contains 60 residences, predominantly configured as full-floor homes with direct elevator access. The building is precisely centered on Central Park, offering residents unobstructed views in all directions. The interior design by Studio Sofield showcases exceptional craftsmanship, featuring materials such as white macauba stone, hand-selected onyx, and custom fixtures cast by P.E. Guerin, New York City's last remaining foundry.

Residents enter through a rare private porte-cochere on 58th Street, leading to a 24-hour attended lobby adorned with limestone, marble, blackened steel, and restored wood flooring from the original Steinway Hall. The building's amenities include an 82-foot two-lane swimming pool with cabanas, sauna and spa treatment rooms, a double-height fitness center with mezzanine terrace, and Manhattan's first private padel court.

The property features Club 111, offering daily breakfast service by Le Bilboquet, a private dining room with catering kitchen, and a residents' lounge with an expansive terrace. Additional amenities include meeting rooms, a study, golf simulator, and children's playroom.

Broker & Buyer Comments

"Impeccably designed" with dual entrances including a porte-cochère on 58th Street and a restored Steinway tower hall, this building delivers "white glove service" through its full-time staff and concierge; the "most notable amenity" may be the rare indoor padel court, making it a standout for residents seeking both architectural elegance and exceptional service.
