The Bancroft, 40 West 72nd Street

Co-op located in Upper West Side, between Columbus Avenue & Central Park West

Comment About the Building

Classic prewar lines. Recent interior renovations in the lobby and hallways. The board is notoriously slow. The building has a sponsor that is unwilling to sell off rental units so the owner occupancy is too high for most banks. Only Citibank will write mortgages in this building. The board has attempted to sue the sponsor unsuccessfully. As a result fees are high and the board a little contentious. Few neighborhoods offer such a fine combination of fine restaurants, cheap eats, good shopping and access to Central Park.
