The original standard-setters are in high demand, and more often that not come with equally high price tags and upkeep. That’s where a new crop of townhouse developments comes in. For buyers who are eager for space and privacy but are reluctant to surrender to the suburbs, a townhouse offers the best of both worlds, not to mention a dash of extra prestige. Real Estate Weekly mentions that local communities often see these new buildings as friendlier to the neighborhood than icy, glass edifices; indeed, height limits in certain historic districts are more conducive to townhouse development.

It is worth noting that appearances can be deceiving: While these townhouses often look like souvenirs of an earlier historic era, designers and developers ensure they contain every modern convenience and luxury, including state-of-the-art appliances, high-end finishes, pre-wiring for the latest technology, and energy efficiency demanded by the conscientious consumer.

Below are some of the most exciting new townhouse developments to take shape in recent years. These, too, have proven to be as hot as their historic counterparts, but there is a small handful of availabilities to be found.
