This problem is easily solved with the help of elevators that open directly at one's apartment. These elevators come equipped with security that only allows residents access to their specific apartments. This is most commonly seen in the form of a key-lock system, but some of the more tech-savvy buildings are incorporating key pads, magnetic controls, and even fingerprint or voice recognition capabilities. These are primarily found in luxury doorman buildings with doorman surveillance, and extras like secondary doors with bolt locks act as additional security measures.

The latest entrant is 142 Flatiron, a newly constructed, eight-story building at 142 West 19th Street. The seven condos comprise a penthouse unit, a townhouse unit, and five full-floor two-bedroom apartments, and all are reached via key-locked elevator. Residents arrive to loft-like interiors, high ceilings, open chef’s kitchens with Miele appliances, and luxurious primary suites with spa-like baths.
