The development in the Brooklyn Cultural District continues to transform the area, and another new building is readying for occupancy. Now nearly complete, The Ashland at 250 Ashland Place has announced the leasing office for its 586 rental units will open on July 19th. The Gotham Organization is the developer of the 53-story tower positioned at the junction of Downtown Brooklyn and Fort Greene. It is the first tower to rise in Brooklyn’s Cultural District.
The building will have a total of 586 residences, from studios to three-bedroom units. Monthly rent for market-rate units starts at $2,600 for studios, and $7,500 for thee-bedrooms. Earlier this year, Gotham launched a housing lottery for the building’s affordable units and received more than 80 thousand applications. The first tenants are set to move in August 1st.

FXFOWLE Architects designed the exterior of the tower, which is in context with the surrounding neighborhood. The materials (brick, limestone, and glass) reflect the houses of Fort Greene, the former Williamsburg Savings Bank, and the new skyscrapers of Downtown Brooklyn. “We wanted The Ashland to be a marriage of past and present,” said Gustavo Rodriguez, principal for FXFOWLE. “The building’s solidity and coloration is rooted in historic Fort Greene; its planar composition of glass and masonry is clearly contemporary, and the result is a statuesque presence on the Brooklyn skyline."
SPAN Architecture designed the interiors, all of which feature floor-to-ceiling windows, wood plank floors, and stainless steel appliances. Many apartments will be have panoramic views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines.

Opening this fall on the ground floor of the building is Gotham Market at the Ashland, a food hall with eight culinary destinations and pop-up spaces for a rotating list of other chefs and restaurateurs. Located above are offices for cultural institutions, followed by a third floor of amenities which includes a terrace. The residences begin on the fourth floor.

Other amenities include a rooftop terrace, fitness center, children’s play lab, resident lounge, billiard room, outdoor movie screening area, demonstration kitchen, and outdoor bar area. Access to some of the building's amenities require an additional fee.
