Making sure your apartment is a safe place for your new baby shouldn’t be something you need to worry about.

Since curious little hands and minds can find just about anything, it’s important to make sure your home is child-proof, which can be a challenge for busy parents in city apartments.

A few easy steps can do a lot to put your mind at ease, and fortunately you’ll find plenty of help. You can find a good childproofing checklist here at the National Safe Kids campaign, as well as answers to questions like “What should be in my first aid kit?” City parents can also enlist the help of a baby-proofing service like Baby Proofing New York or Baby Proofers Plus, who offer standard or custom child-proofing solutions for city homes. Baby Be Safe holds classes to instruct parents in infant CPR and first aid to help you feel more confident anywhere. Home-handyman specialists Cityhammer also list pros who can get to work constructing a safe, child-friendly home.

You can even monitor your sleeping baby with a baby monitor iPhone app. Place the iPhone near your sleeping baby; if it detects noise, it calls the phone number of your choice, and you can listen to make sure everything’s ok. The community of parents at UrbanBaby is also a great resource for recommended services safety advice.
