On Sunday, November 2, nearly 60,000 runners finished the New York City Marathon spanning all five boroughs. While a small fraction of the more than 200,000 runners who entered the lottery, this still set a new record as the world's largest marathon. Kenya's Hellen Obiri set a new women's course record, winning in 2:19:51, and her countryman Benson Kipruto won in the men's division by a fraction of a second. Celebrity marathoners included several alumni of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan, stage/screen actor Anthony Ramos, and Broadway actor Jordan Litz, who went from the marathon to two performances of Wicked.
According to Brand Finance's Marathon 50 2025 report, the New York City Marathon is the world's most valuable brand, worth an estimated $292 million (h/t Marathon World). Coincidentally, marathoners ran past some of the most valuable real estate in the world as they made their way up Central Park South to reach the finish line. Real estate listing along perimeter of Central Park, specifically the south and east sides, command some of the city's highest prices. The Plaza Hotel, which features a condo component in addition to the hotel rooms, is located on Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, possibly making it one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the city.

A few days before the marathon, Landmarks reviewed a proposal for interior and exterior renovations to The Plaza's residential entrance and lobby on Central Park South, which originally served as the hotel's main entrance. A presentation by Acheson Doyle Partners Architects detailed plans to install a new vestibule between a pair of revolving doors, modify a marble desk in the lobby to allow for greater mobility, and to restore several historic elements like the iconic mosaic flooring. Commissioners were largely supportive and unanimously voted to approve the plan.

"New York's most celebrated symbol of cosmopolitan and turn-of-the-century splendor, inside and out" - Ada Louise Huxtable on The Plaza

The hearing took place around a time when listings overlooking Central Park accounted for all five of Manhattan's highest-priced sales and the majority of New York City's highest-priced contracts. Billionaires' Row has become synonymous with today's luxury real estate, but has also become increasingly crowded with soaring skyscrapers that have risen alongside prewar cooperatives. This could explain why several listings along this stretch of 57th Street, including two at The Plaza, were among nearly 300 condos, co-ops, condops, and townhouses that experienced price reductions from October 28 - November 3, 2025.
A selection of notable listings, as well as a full chart of last week's price cuts, may be found below. Please be advised that all quoted figures reflect cumulative price cuts (looking at you, Trump World Tower condo) as opposed to the most recent reductions.
