In April 2026, Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey's Tribeca penthouse at Franklin Tower hit the market for $27 million. She has owned it since 1999, when she was rejected in her bid to buy Barbra Streisand's former penthouse at The Ardsley. From there, she bought two apartments at Franklin Tower for a combined $9 million to create her dream home with the help of interior designer Mario Buatta.
The resulting penthouse appeared on what some would say is one of the most memorable episodes of MTV Cribs. Unforgettable features include custom dressing rooms, a primary bath with an enormous soaking tub, a home gym, a home recording studio, a mermaid-themed screening room, a "Moroccan room" den with terrace access, and butterfly motifs throughout in honor of Butterfly, the album she released before buying the penthouse.

In September 2024, the New York Post revealed that she owes $18.6 million in mortgage debt on the penthouse and had just offloaded an Atlanta mansion at a loss. The penthouse came on the market over a year and a half later. The listing includes virtually staged images to hide dated-looking interiors by Mr. Buatta, who was known as the "prince of chintz"; but the square footage, roof terrace, and views remain desirable, and Tribeca has surged in popularity in the decades since she bought the penthouse.

Ms. Carey said of her Tribeca home, "When I was little, I always wanted a penthouse apartment in New York City." It is a dream shared by many. Indeed, there are several penthouse apartments to be found among the most notable and high-priced real estate listings and transactions linked to celebrities from Q1 2026.

There has been some legal drama between Baroness Bich and her sons over the family's fortune; however, Mansion Global notes that it does not involve this penthouse and that an extensive board approval process accounts for the length of time between the June 2025 contract and the March 2026 closing. Suzy Welch—Entered contract with $26,000,000 ask

Academy Award-winning director Mike Nichols once owned the house, which is located on the same block as Madonna's mansion.

From the Listing: This mint condition 40 foot wide mansion boasts one of the largest private gardens on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a private garage with curb-cut and stunning interiors recently reimagined by renowned design firm Williams Lawrence. 15 East 63rd Street, Upper East Side mansion 15 East 63rd Street, #TH (Brown Harris Stevens)

The owners were his longtime wife, Marianne Nestor Cassini, and her sister Peggy Nestor. The sisters lived there while it was still a seven-family rental and planned to convert it to a single-family mansion; however, they borrowed heavily against the house and its sale was included in Peggy Nestor's bankruptcy plan.

From the Listing: Nestled just off Fifth Avenue's prestigious Gold Coast, this approximately 18,000-square-foot Beaux-Arts limestone mansion is a once-in-a-lifetime offering. With six above-grade floors and two below-grade levels, this architectural treasure is one of the few remaining mansions of the Gilded Age in Manhattan.
