As West Side mega-development Waterline Place takes shape, there seems to be more progress every day. Richard Meier’s One Waterline Square is nearing its full height. Sister building Three Waterline Square, designed by Rafael Vinoly, has just topped out construction. Now the third residential building, Two Waterline Square, is nearly halfway up. Its designer, Kohn Pedersen Fox, is known as “masters of glass towers that punctuate the sky,” and most of the glass is already up on this latest project. Upon completion, the 38-story building will have 486 rentals and 160 condos on top. Amenities will include a private dining room with catering kitchen, spirits library, lounge with billiards table and bar, and sun deck.
However, families with an eye on Waterline Square will appreciate an unofficial amenity: close access to a new Collegiate School on the rise next door. The prestigious all-boys school sold its headquarters on West 78th Street for $97 million in 2013, and Kohn Pedersen Fox is the architect of its new Waterline Place building. The new school will have a partially curved glass façade and rise 10 stories. This will provide enough room for ten additional classrooms across all three divisions, a science center on a single floor, a new digital arts lab, black box theater, and two gyms. Dining and recreational spaces will also expand.
The new tower and school will be part of a thriving community. When the three residential towers are complete, 20% of the apartments within will be affordable. All residents will have access to the 90,000+ square feet of amenities from athletics to arts and everything in between at The Waterline Club. A 2.6-acre park will connect Waterline Place to the Riverside Park South Esplanade.
