Back in 2009, new building permits were filed by The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) to build a 6-floor mixed-use building at 508 Brook Avenue in Mott Haven. Construction has yet to begin and the once debris-strewn site at the corner of East 148th Street and Brook was converted to a parking lot last year. Harlem-based Body Lawson Associates are listed as the project’s designers and recently-published renderings on their website depict a contemporary 6-floor building with a church at the ground floor. Per the page, the project is called Senda Apartments and will have 36 affordable studios, one- and two-bedroom rental apartments. The now-dated permits have conflicting information saying the building was to rise 9 floors, hold 24 units and have a community facility in the form of a church and fellowship hall on its lower floors.
The project still appears on SoBRO’s website. The non-profit acquired the site in 2008 and no transactions have been recorded since. Back in October, SoBRO filed permits to begin construction on a long-planned affordable rental at 1769 Fort Geoge Hill in Inwood. Body Lawson Associates is also serving as the designer of that project.
