Earlier this week, VITAL Climbing Gym signed a lease for 45,000 square feet across three floors at The Artisan in Essex Crossing, where it will offer climbing and bouldering instruction as well as yoga, cycling, and weightlifting classes to stay in climbing condition (h/t New York Post). When it opens next spring, climbing enthusiasts in Lower Manhattan will no longer have to trek to climbing gyms uptown or in Brooklyn to partake in their hobby.
VITAL Climbing Gym’s lease is the latest testament to the growing popularity of climbing: Sports climbing became an Olympic event at the Summer 2020 Games, Edge has introduced City Climb in Hudson Yards, and athletes of all stripes appreciate the sport’s physical and mental benefits. Residential developers have also taken notice and incorporated climbing walls into their fitness and recreational amenity packages.
