Have you ever wondered why New York City is so humid when other coastal cities are so much drier? The East Coast obviously has a lot of water frontage but what makes the east coast excessively humid is not the amount of water but the temperature of our oceans. The Atlantic and Pacific Oceans’ currents flow clockwise. For the Atlantic, that means our water comes up from the equator so we have much warmer water than the Pacific Ocean. Hence, New York City in July and August can feel quite warm and muggy.

To make being outdoor during the summer season more enjoyable, many new residential buildings have provided outdoor pools as amenities to add value and cache to their developments. Below is a list of the coolest pools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens to turn a sticky summer into a five-star spa experience.

After an abbreviated season last year, New York's outdoor public pools are set to open on Saturday, June 26. In related news, +POOL, a floating, self-filtering pool, has just received confirmation to proceed with due diligence. If all goes according to plan, it could open on the south side of Pier 35 on the Lower East Side within the next several years. The four sections will include a lap pool, sports pool, lounge pool, and kids' pool; the design has been compared to a giant strainer and will filter out contaminants within the walls, allowing visitors to swim in clean East River water.
