As of March 26, 2021, there is a total of 10,332 marketed availabilities for rent in Manhattan. This represents a small dip from last week's total, and the median Manhattan rent has ticked up slightly to $3,001/month (all figures per CityRealty listings).
The Smile initially attracted attention for its gracefully curved facade by Bjarke Ingels Group, but the East Harlem rental’s interiors may be about to steal its exterior’s thunder: The building recently unveiled a selection of apartments with a modular furniture system by Bumblebee Spaces. Residents of these units can summon and stow their bed, desk, and wardrobe into the ceiling, thanks to a sophisticated robotic system and ceiling-mounted grid that can hold several tons of weight. Bumblebee apartments may be found in several new San Francisco rentals, and The Smile is the first building in New York City to feature it.

The newly revealed interiors at The Smile come shortly after The Artisan outfitted a series of studio and one-beds with space-saving interiors from Ori, and at a time when luxury rentals like 10 Hanover Square, Sky, and 251 West 117th Street are offering a more standard option to lease homes furnished.
