While the indulgence and health benefits of hot tubs are well known, cold plunges are not to be overlooked. Cooled to temperatures no warmer than 59 degrees Fahrenheit, these have been proven to offer physical and mental health benefits like decreased swelling and inflammation, relieved muscle soreness, improved sleep, a more radiant appearance, and a rush of endorphins. While the cold water can come as a great relief on the hottest days of summer, the benefits of cold plunges can be enjoyed year-round.
Cold plunge pools are typically part of hydrotherapy circuits that allow visitors to go from the icy water to the heat of a hot tub or sauna. A much-anticipated case in point may be found at the forthcoming Kith Ivy on the ninth floor of 120 Leroy Street in the West Village. It has generated significant attention for its Erewhon juice bar, the closest New Yorkers can come to the cult favorite Los Angeles grocer, but the padel courts and spa designed by Giorgio Armani, featuring a hammam, sauna, massage rooms, and cold-plunge pools, are not to be overlooked.

Completion of Kith Ivy is estimated for later this year. In the meantime, New York City has no shortage of spas and wellness clubs with cold plunges among their offerings. Select locations of high-end gym chains Chelsea Piers, Equinox, and Life Time include cold plunges in their recovery suites.
Finally, some wellness enthusiasts need not leave their buildings to experience a cold plunge. At this point in the residential amenity race, indoor pools have become almost de rigueur for New York’s luxury buildings. Some buildings, like the ones below, have taken it one step further by including cold plunge pools with their aquatic offerings.
